October 02, 2003 :: New music!
My Amazon order arrived yesterday. I got Erykah Badu's World Wide Underground, Zapp & Roger All The Greatest Hits, and Verve//Remixed.
Erykah, I feel stiffed. Not stiff, as in "ooh Erykah Badu turns me on." Man, I'd be scared if Erykah turned me on. She turns brothas out! Look what she did to Andre and Common. No, I feel stiffed. This album was just under 51 minutes long, with only 10 tracks, and one of those tracks is almost 11 minutes! This is as short as an old LP record. Erykah, the hell you been doin the past couple of years? Besides mindfucking rap artists.....
I'm happy to have my Zapp & Roger back though. My original copy grew legs about two years ago, I'm still mad about that. Some of my best samples came from there.
Verve//Remixed is, quite possibly, the best new CD I've bought all year. It is a special Verve project - they took old master recordings of some of the jazz great vocalists from the Verve catalog (Ella, Nina, Dinah, Billie, Sarah, to name a few) and gave them to some of the leading electronica DJs and producers (Rae & Christian, Dzihan & Kamien, Tricky, King Britt, etc.) to be remixed. The result is absolutely phenomenal! And now, they've released Verve//Remixed 2... it's on my Amazon wish list if you're feeling generous.
